A content management system must be easy to use in order to realize its purpose as a cost saving and efficiency-boosting tool. This means allowing the maximum number of content contributors to update the site, regardless of skill. Assignment of work to non-technical staff prevents production bottlenecks by reducing dependence on technical personnel, and allows for affordable management of extensive or complex content.
An easy-to-use system comprises three main characteristics, all of which are present in InsightBuilder:

- Familiar, easy to learn authoring environment
- Consistent Interface
As an example of accessibility, the InsightBuilder “content tree” interface allows users to navigate the structure of the site and find documents or objects easily based a number of textual and visual clues. Different types of files are represented with different icons, so that files of a certain type can be easily accessible.
 
InsightBuilder offers a familiar authoring environment with which to author content. The WYSIWYG (“What You See Is What You Get) rich text editor works very similarly to standard word processing software. Familiar buttons have familiar effects, such as the “b” button to create bold text or the “align” buttons to change text or image alignment. This familiar authoring environment makes it easy for users to write content without needing knowledge of HTML, XML, or other coding language. Finally, the method for creating and modifying content is consistent throughout IB2 regardless of the document type or file format you are producing. Users do not need to learn special tags or instructions to produce formatted text for HTML, PDF, Flash templates or other document types. This allows for easy re-purposing of content added to IB2’s database from one file format to another without extensive user retraining.
