Modern companies and non-profit organizations employ dozens of computer applications serving their needs. Accounting departments store financial information to databases, sales and purchasing departments track contacts, orders and communications, while marketing departments require content management solutions to manage documents and web sites.
This proliferation of systems can result in unconnected applications and data. Yet it is in an organizations' interest to standardized and share information across departments and applications in order to eliminate duplicative and wasteful use of resources (e.g., reentering or reformating data for different systems).
InsightBuilder 2 (IB2), with its object oriented database structure and XML/XSL architecture allow organizations to "reuse" data that has been formatted one way for one department. Image, text and other data are stored in separated "pieces" or "objects" which can be recombined using InsightBuilder XSL templates. This allows administrators to reuse marketing, sales, financial and other data in a virtually unlimited?array of possible combinations.
Additionally, the IB2 "IBObject" entity allows retrieval of data from third party databases and structure.?IBObject lays at the base of the IB2 API -- all the methods and functions of IB2 work with the IBObject application interface to retrieve data from 3rd party databases and applications (e.g., inventory or accounting) for repurposing and publication.
Finally, with its built-in XSLT technology and parser, InsightBuilder can reformat data retrieved into virtually any document type or layout. Thus, IB2 users can publish their organizations data to online HTML reports, into Flash presentations, or as XML files for exchange with yet more 3rd party systems (via FTP, web services, or other transport methods).
With IB2, a true "any to any" relationship between data and applications is a reality.
